Zelenskyy’s visit to the UAE

On the eve of talks with the Russians in Saudi Arabia, in which it is still unclear whether Ukraine will participate, President Zelenskyy and his delegation are in the neighboring UAE. In particular, he held talks with UAE President Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

Zelenskyy thanked the Emirates for their assistance in the release of Ukrainian soldiers from Russian captivity. With the mediation of this state, 12 exchanges have already taken place. Ukraine hopes that together with the UAE, it will be possible to bring home even more Ukrainians. The Presidential Administration claims that this was one of the key topics of the talks.

Zelenskyy also emphasized that Russia’s alliance with the DPRK and Iran poses direct threats to the UAE and called on them to strengthen sanctions against Russia.

The President of Ukraine also discussed with his counterpart the humanitarian initiative “Grain of Ukraine” and the program “Food from Ukraine” aimed at helping the Syrian people and invited the UAE to support it. They discussed potential projects to create a food hub in Egypt and the possibility of implementing agricultural programs in Ukraine.

In general, they agreed to strengthen cooperation in the innovation, economic, and trade spheres.

Before the full-scale Russian invasion, trade between Ukraine and the UAE amounted to USD 1.15 billion. BEFORE THE FULL-SCALE RUSSIAN INVASION, THE TRADE TURNOVER BETWEEN UKRAINE AND THE UAE AMOUNTED TO 1.15 BILLION DOLLARS. Due to Russian aggression, it has decreased, but is growing again every year.
