Ukraine has tightened sanctions against Firtash and Medvedchuk’s circle

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has signed new sanctions decisions, extending restrictions against former oligarch Dmytro Firtash and Viktor Medvedchuk’s associate Taras Kozak. The head of state announced this in a post on his Facebook page, according to "Komersant Ukrainian".

According to the president, Ukraine is synchronizing its sanctions policy with the UK, increasing pressure on individuals and companies associated with Russia and its structures.

Sanctions against Firtash: his entourage and business under attack

The first set of decisions concerns Dmytro Firtash. Zelensky emphasized that sanctions against him have been extended, and restrictions have also been imposed on his inner circle and companies under his control.

“We are continuing sanctions against former oligarch Dmytro Firtash and, as part of synchronization, we are applying sanctions against his close associates and companies under his control,” the president said.

The head of state stressed that all entities associated with Russia and its structures must be blocked, regardless of their status or length of cooperation with the aggressor country.

Restrictions against Kozak and Medvedchuk’s associates

The second block of sanctions concerns the assets of Viktor Medvedchuk’s circle. In particular, the state has extended sanctions against Taras Kozak and eight companies associated with him.

“We are continuing sanctions against one of Viktor Medvedchuk’s closest associates, Taras Kozak, and companies associated with him,” Zelensky said.

The president stressed that these individuals sided with the aggressor long before the full-scale invasion began, so Ukraine will continue to systematically counteract anyone who has worked or is working in the interests of Russia.

Synchronization with international partners

According to the head of state, Ukraine’s sanctions policy is being developed in close coordination with partners, in particular the United Kingdom, which allows for more effective restrictions and prevents sanctions from being circumvented through foreign jurisdictions.
