During the UN Security Council meeting on the fourth anniversary of Russia’s full-scale invasion, Ukraine stated its principled position: there will be no territorial concessions to the aggressor state. This was announced by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Mariana Betsa, according to "Komersant Ukrainian".

Ukraine’s position at the UN

Speaking at the meeting, the diplomat stressed that sovereignty and territorial integrity are fundamental principles of the United Nations, enshrined in the UN Charter and international law.

Ukraine does not recognize any occupation of its territories and will not agree to any compromises that contradict international law.

According to Betsa, Russia has not suffered the appropriate consequences for its war crimes, which creates a sense of impunity and encourages the Kremlin to further escalate the situation.

Call for Russia to be held accountable

During the speech, the Ukrainian side called on the international community to ensure that Russia is held accountable for its crimes.

The diplomat noted that Moscow is covering up the war with a so-called negotiation process, which it itself is sabotaging, despite the efforts of the US and European states.

Ukraine, she stressed, seeks a just and lasting peace based exclusively on the norms of international law.

The UN Security Council meeting was dedicated to the anniversary of the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine. During the discussion on security in Europe, the Ukrainian delegation emphasized the inadmissibility of any attempts to legitimize the occupation of Ukrainian territories.

Official Kyiv consistently states that peace is only possible if Ukraine’s territorial integrity is fully restored within its internationally recognized borders.
