Ukraine has proposed an energy truce to Russia

Ukraine is prepared to refrain from striking Russian oil refining and oil export infrastructure if Russia stops attacking Ukraine’s energy sector.

This was stated by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, according to "Komersant Ukrainian".

According to him, Ukraine conveyed the proposal for an energy truce to Russia via the United States.

“If Russia is ready to stop attacks on our energy sector, we will be ready to respond in kind. And the Russian side has received our proposal—via the Americans,” Zelenskyy emphasized.

He noted that Ukraine’s long-range strikes are reducing Russia’s revenues.

“First and foremost, this is oil revenue, which is absolutely fair; the main thing is that it limits Russia’s ability to drag out this war. Only significant financial losses will force Russia to consider a scenario for exiting the war. Right now, the oil market and global markets in general are in crisis due to the unresolved situation surrounding Iran; oil-producing countries—and Russia among them—can now earn more. Our drones and our missiles are limiting Russia in this regard,” the head of state noted.

Zelensky emphasized that whatever the Russians can earn from the shock oil prices, they will spend on the war.

“This priority has not changed for them yet. Therefore, every restriction we impose on their ability to export oil is the right thing to do,” the president noted.

Earlier, the head of the Office of the President of Ukraine, Kyrylo Budanov, confirmed in an interview with the American news agency Bloomberg that Ukraine is receiving signals from partners regarding the need to limit strikes on Russia’s energy infrastructure amid a global rise in oil prices due to the war in the Middle East.
