Ukraine launches the first state portal on artificial intelligence: what it means
10 September 14:57
The Ministry of Digital Transformation has presented the first state website on artificial intelligence in Ukraine – ai.thedigital.gov.ua, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.
The platform contains information on key AI projects, industry news, recommendations for businesses and educational institutions, as well as opportunities for startups and international cooperation.
What opportunities does the portal offer
- access to practical guides on the use of AI;
- public catalog of state and commercial AI projects;
- an environment for startup development;
- a platform for cooperation between business, science, and the state;
- an opportunity to join the Artificial Intelligence Committee at the Ministry of Digital Transformation.
Why it is important
Ukraine is undergoing a digital transformation, and artificial intelligence has been identified as one of its strategic directions.
The launch of the website coincides with the development of WINWIN AI CoE, the first Center of Excellence for the development and integration of AI products.
Possible consequences
- For business: simplified access to government tools and AI practices.
- For science and education: new programs of cooperation with universities, integration of AI into educational courses.
- For international partners: a clear “showcase” of Ukrainian AI projects and an opportunity to invest in the sector.
What the Ministry of Digital Transformation says
Minister of Digital Transformation Mykhailo Fedorov:
“We want to make Ukraine an AI-friendly country. The new portal will help unite all initiatives into one environment and attract more partners to the development of artificial intelligence.”
It is expected that in the near future the portal will become a basic platform for launching pilot state AI solutions in medicine, education, and e-services.
What it means for Ukraine in war and recovery
- Defense and security: AI is already being used in intelligence, satellite image analysis, and drone operations. A single portal will allow for faster scaling of developments and their integration into government systems.
- Medicine during the war: AI algorithms can help with telemedicine, trauma diagnostics, and psychological rehabilitation of military and civilians.
- Economic recovery: AI can automate processes in the agricultural, energy, and construction industries, which are key to post-war recovery.
- Anti-corruption tools: AI can analyze public procurement and identify risky tenders.
- International cooperation: a public AI showcase enhances Ukraine’s image as an innovative country even in times of war, which helps to attract donors and investors.
It is worth mentioning that AI portals function as a part of national strategies all over the world. For example, the EU has AI Watch, and Canada has launched Canada.ai to unite business and science.
