Ukraine will harvest more than 50 million tons of grain this year – forecast

Ukraine is expected to have a stable harvest of grains and oilseeds in 2025, which will meet domestic needs and support exports. This was stated by Leonid Kozachenko, Chairman of the Ukrainian Agrarian Confederation, in an interview with the YouTube channel "Komersant Ukrainian".

“I think that there will be at least 50 million tons of grain and somewhere in the range of 21-22 million tons of oilseeds,” he said.

Mr. Kozachenko added that such figures would allow Ukraine to maintain a high level of food security and continue exporting agricultural products to global markets.

Over the past two years, Ukraine has been showing a gradual recovery in yields despite the full-scale war. In 2023, farmers harvested about 58 million tons of grains and oilseeds, exceeding market expectations. Last year, the figures were slightly lower due to unfavorable weather conditions and a reduction in the area under certain crops.

The grain sector remains critically important for the economy: the share of agricultural products in the country’s foreign exchange earnings exceeds 40%. At the same time, farmers are operating under high risks due to Russia’s constant attacks on ports, logistical difficulties, and rising production costs.

The government and international partners are actively looking for new logistics routes. In particular, the Danube corridor and the expansion of exports through the western borders have partially compensated for the blocking of Black Sea ports.

Thus, the projected harvest of over 50 million tons this year confirms the stability of the Ukrainian agricultural sector, which remains one of the key players in the global grain market.
