Ukraine’s national team finished the 2025 World Games, which took place from August 7 to 17 in Chengdu, China, with a brilliant result – 44 awards and third place in the team standings.

This was announced by the Sports Committee of Ukraine, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.

Ukrainian athletes won 16 gold, 14 silver and 14 bronze medals. Only the national teams of Germany (45 medals, including 17 gold) and China (64 medals, including 36 gold) were ahead in the final ranking.

The most successful day for the Ukrainian team was August 10, when our athletes won 12 awards in various disciplines.

Ukrainian sambo wrestlers made a particularly loud statement. Andriy Kucherenko, Vladyslav Rudnev, and Petro Davydenko defeated “neutral” Russians in the finals of individual matches to win gold, and later won the team championship.

Videos of the emotional moments of the competition went viral on social media: Rudnev’s fight against the Russian, where the Ukrainian won a convincing victory, and the team’s celebration with Ukrainian hopak right in the arena.

“Ukrainians have once again proved that they are among the elite of world sports. And despite any circumstances, they fight for victory to the end. Thank you, Chengdu! Thank you, World Games! See you in four years in Karlsruhe, Germany,” the Sports Committee said in a statement.

The World Games are international integrated competitions in non-Olympic sports held every four years under the auspices of the International Olympic Committee.

The program of this year’s Games in Chengdu includes dozens of disciplines – from underwater sports, canoeing and sport climbing to cheerleading, American football and even drone sports. The next World Games in 2029 will be hosted by the German city of Karlsruhe.
