Ukrainians remain one of the most potato-loving nations in Europe. According to various estimates, each resident of the country consumes about 120-130 kilograms of potatoes annually. For comparison, in Poland, this figure is about 100 kg, and in France or Germany, it is half that. This was stated by Olga Samoilichenko, Executive Director of the Ukrainian Association of Potato Producers, in an interview with the "Komersant Ukrainian" YouTube channel.

“There are official European statistics. It so happens that Europeans know better than we do how much potatoes we consume, and they give a figure of 120-130 kg per year. For example, in Poland it is 100 kg per year. And countries like Germany or France consume 50 to 60 kg per year,” Samoilichenko explained.

According to her, there is no definite data on the actual volume of potato consumption in Ukraine, so the Association of Potato Producers, together with the Kyiv School of Economics (KSE) and the Dutch government, has launched a market study. The project involves a comprehensive study of the entire potato market – from growing to processing.

The cooperation involves researching the entire market. From growing to processing. We will study the entire potato supply chain,” Samoilichenko said.

She also added that the Netherlands is one of Ukraine’s most consistent international partners in supporting the development of potato growing.

“This is the country that supports Ukrainian potato growing the most. They have always supported the industry, despite the war,” the expert said.
