Preliminary contacts with the US
Last week, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced a new round of talks in the United States. A few days before the Ukrainian delegation ‘s departure, he spoke twice on the phone with President Donald Trump.
After these conversations, the White House chief confirmed that he had discussed defense support and “possible new steps to achieve peace” with Zelenskyy.
Why it matters
These talks could be crucial for the continuation of US military and financial assistance to Ukraine in 2026.
Against the backdrop of a new administration in Washington, Kyiv is trying to preserve its strategic partnership and convince its allies to support Ukraine until a sustainable peace is achieved.
