Trump threatened to send Tomahawks to Ukraine if the war is not stopped: what the Kremlin says
13 October 21:42
US President Donald Trump has said that he may provide Ukraine with Tomahawk long-range cruise missiles if the war is not resolved diplomatically in the near future.
He made this statement during a flight to Israel aboard Air Force One, commenting on his last phone conversation with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports citing Axios.
“Maybe I will talk to him (Putin). Maybe I’ll say, listen, if this war can’t be resolved, I’m going to send them Tomahawk missiles,“ Trump said.
As a reminder, last week Zelenskyy spoke to Trump twice on the phone to discuss new US defense aid. The White House confirmed that the topics included long-range weapons and strengthening Ukraine’s air defense. After the conversation, a Ukrainian delegation headed by Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko and National Security and Defense Council Secretary Rustem Umerov left for Washington to negotiate security support.
Moscow’s reaction
The Kremlin has already reacted to Trump’s words, calling the possible transfer ofTomahawks toUkraine a serious round of escalation.
Putin’s spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that such assistance “threatens stability in Europe“ and “undermines any prospects for peaceful dialogue.”
What is known about the Tomahawk?
“TheTomahawk is an American cruise missile with a range of up to 2,500 kilometers that can carry both conventional and nuclear warheads. They have been widely used by the United States in military campaigns in Iraq, Libya, and Syria, and are capable of hitting targets with high accuracy even at great distances.
Previously, Ukraine did not have access to this type of weapon. This is the first time that the possibility of transferring missiles has been publicly raised at this level.
Trump’s speech came on the eve of his visit to Israel, where he plans to discuss the release of Hamas hostages. In the United States, there is an ongoing internal debate over the continuation of military assistance to Ukraine, which the new administration is trying to reconsider.
