The General Staff announced a special operation against Drapato: what false information is being spread on social media

The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine has reported a targeted disinformation campaign against the new Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Mykhailo Drapaty. This was announced by General Staff spokesperson Dmytro Lykhoviy on his Facebook page , according to "Komersant Ukrainian"
According to the spokesperson, for the second day in a row, fake accounts, fabricated statements, and false information have been circulating on social media, which may be part of a coordinated campaign to discredit the military leadership.
Following Mykhailo Drapaty’s appointment, the following began appearing en masse in the information space:
- fake accounts in his name;
- fabricated statements;
- false reports about allegedly adopted decisions;
- content generated using artificial intelligence.
Lykhovoy noted that the sheer volume of such reports points to a targeted disinformation campaign.
What false claims has the General Staff refuted?
The General Staff spokesperson emphasized that the following reports are false:
- an alleged audit within the Armed Forces;
- Mykhailo Drapati establishing a charitable foundation for the wounded;
- alleged deployment of TCC employees to the front lines.
Lykhovoy says that military experts are debunking a story generated by AI and spread via bot accounts about a fictional public quarrel between the new and former commanders-in-chief.
“A fabricated story has taken on a life of its own—that Drapati announced some kind of audit in the Armed Forces of Ukraine, that he used his own money to set up a charitable foundation for the wounded, and that the TCC sent people to the front lines,” noted the General Staff spokesperson.

Fake accounts are already being blocked
The General Staff reported that one of Mykhailo Drapatiy’s fake accounts on the social network X (Twitter) has already been blocked with the assistance of the Ministry of Digital Transformation.
However, according to the spokesperson, a new wave of fake pages subsequently began to spread, particularly on Threads and Facebook.
The General Staff also stated that Mykhailo Drapatyi has not created any new official accounts on these social media platforms.
Lykhovoy refuted reports of an audit at the TCC. He noted that taking office and getting up to speed on current affairs is a different matter.
“The claims about the foundation, the argument, and the TCC are also untrue. Drapatiy is not on Threads, and he has no intention of creating additional social media accounts,” said the General Staff officer.
The General Staff urged people to verify information
Dmytro Lykhovyi appealed to journalists, bloggers, and social media users, urging them to carefully verify their sources of information.
According to him, before sharing a post or image, you must make sure:
- that the account is official;
- that the information is verified;
- that the message is not the result of bots or artificial intelligence.
Fake news about Drapato began circulating immediately after his appointment
The day before, a false message had already appeared online in the name of Mykhailo Drapaty, claiming that a large-scale audit had begun in the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
This information was subsequently officially refuted.
In addition, the Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War reported an increase in disinformation attacks and separately refuted false reports regarding an alleged change in its leadership.
