Ukrainian IT Company Takes Part in Two Oscar Wins

“Respeecher has completed more than 60 projects in 2024. Two films won the Golden Globe. Four were nominated for an Oscar – The Best Man, Alien: Romulus, Emilia Perez, and The Brutalist. And The Brutalist and Emilia Perez won the Oscar!” Oleksandr Serdyuk wrote on Facebook.
What we know about Respeecher and its technology
Respeecher is a startup that works in the field of speech processing and uses artificial intelligence to allow one person to speak in the voice of another. The technology is in demand in various fields, from gaming to the Hollywood film industry.
In an interview with DOU, Respeecher co-founder and CTO Dmitry Belevtsov said that the startup is developing a technology that allows one actor to play the voice of another.
“We had an ambition to bring it to such a quality that it could be used in professional films. And we succeeded. For the last few years, we have been working on making our technology available to small creators, not just Hollywood studios. But when we were just starting out, we were inspired by the opportunity to see the fruits of our work on the big screen in Hollywood,” said Dmitry Belevtsov.
What about this year’s Oscar winners?
As you know, the 97th Academy Awards ceremony took place the day before. Some of this year’s winners can thank Ukrainian developers for their help.
The Brutalist won in three nominations: Best Cinematography, Best Film Score, and Best Actor. Respeecher AI technology was used to improve the Hungarian pronunciation of actors.
Emilia Perez won in the Best Supporting Actress and Best Original Song nominations. Respeecher technology was also used in the production of the movie.
Anora was recognized as the best film of the year. Mikey Madison won the Best Actress award for her performance in this movie. “The Oscar for Best Actor went to Adrian Brody for his performance in The Brutalist.
