Ukrainian farmers rely on blueberries: annual foreign exchange earnings exceed 12 billion euros

Ukrainian farmers are investing millions in blueberry cultivation.
Volodymyr Pechko, chairman of the Ukrsadvynprom association, said this in an interview with Kommersant Ukrainsky.
“It is hard to say that this is a small business with investments of about 4 million euros per 100 hectares of blueberries. You realize that these are quite large investments and large revenues,” he said.
According to him, large enterprises choose blueberries as their main monoculture.
“Of course, I can’t say that holdings plant a lot of blueberries. Usually it’s just an enterprise, and it’s a monoculture. Someone may plant some cherries or apples, but usually they invest in blueberries. They are not distracted by any other crops,” he said.
Pechko added that Ukraine already has companies that have entered the international market with significant export volumes.
“For example, we have three companies that export very well, with about 500 hectares of blueberries. The foreign exchange earnings for the country are more than 12 million euros,” he informs.
