Ukrainian ski resorts skip the holiday season: what’s the reason?

26 December 20:55

For the first time in many years, no Ukrainian ski resort has opened the season on the traditional dates and is not planning to do so during Christmas or New Year, the peak tourist season. The reason is the warm December and the complete absence of natural snow in the mountains. This was reported by ZAXID.NET, according to "Komersant Ukrainian".

The situation at the main resorts

The slopes of Bukovel, Dragobrat and Slavske remain without snow cover, and even artificial snowmaking is unlikely to help prepare the slopes in time. At Bukovel, light snow started falling only at night on December 24, when the temperature dropped to -3°C and the resort turned on its snow cannons. However, it has not yet been possible to prepare the slopes for the holiday season, although there are still a lot of tourists at the resort.

Forecasts and prospects for the season

The situation at Dragobrat is similar: some snow has covered the slopes, but it is not enough for skiing.

According to the Ukrhydrometeorological Center, the ski season is not expected to start soon, and tourists will have to plan their vacation taking into account the climatic conditions.
