Ukrainian tennis players have learned their rivals at the Australian Open-2025

On Thursday, January 9, the draw for the main round of the 2025 Australian Open tennis tournament took place, according to "Komersant Ukrainian" with reference to Suspilne Sport.
Six representatives of Ukraine made it to the main draw of the tournament: Marta Kostiuk, Elina Svitolina, Diana Yastremska, Angelina Kalinina, Yulia Starodubtseva and Daria Snigur.

Matches of Ukrainian tennis players in the first round
Marta Kostiuk (17th seed) will face Japan’s Nao Hibino. If she succeeds in the second round, her opponent will be another player from the qualifiers or German Julie Niemeyer. In the third round, Kostiuk could potentially meet Spaniard Paula Badosa, and in the fourth round – American Jessica Pegula (seventh seed).
Elina Svitolina, who is seeded 28th, will open the tournament with a match against Romanian Sorana Kirsti. In 2021, Svitolina already defeated this opponent at the Indian Wells tournament. In the second round, she will face the winner of the pair Caroline Dowlgade (USA) and the qualifier. In the third round, she may meet fourth-seeded Italian Jasmine Paolini.
Diane Yastremska (32nd seed), who reached the semifinals of the Australian Open last year, will start with a match against Egyptian Mayar Sherif. In the second round, Yastremska may face one of the winners of the Danka Kovinic-Lulu Sun (Montenegro) pairing, and in the third round, world number six Yelena Rybakina.
Angelina Kalinina will play in the first round against Tunisia’s Ons Jaber, the former world number two. In the previous two meetings with this opponent, Kalinina lost. If the Ukrainian wins, she will face American Emma Navarro (eighth seed) in the second round.
Yulia Starodubtseva will open her debut match in the main draw of the Australian Open against Canadian Leila Fernandez (30th seed). If she wins, Starodubtseva’s next opponent will be the winner of the Kristina Buksa – Chloe Paquet pairing. In the third round, she may meet the world number three, American Coco Goff.
Daria Snigur, who qualified, will meet American Danielle Collins (10th seed) in the first round. In case of a successful performance, both Ukrainians, Snigur and Yastremska, may meet in the fourth round.

TheAustralian Open is one of the four most prestigious tennis tournaments in the world, a Grand Slam tournament held annually in Melbourne, Australia. The tournament was founded in 1905 and has been held on hard courts since 1988. Competitions include five main categories: singles and doubles among men and women, as well as mixed doubles.
The Australian Open traditionally opens the tennis season and is held in January. The tournament is known as one of the most comfortable for spectators thanks to modern arenas with sliding roofs that provide ideal conditions for playing even at high temperatures.
Last year, Elina Svitolina reached the quarterfinals of the tournament, Diana Yastremska reached the semifinals, and Liudmyla Kichenok paired with Yelena Ostapenko in the final of the women’s doubles tournament.
