Ukrainian arms manufacturers are waiting to enter the European market

Domestic defense companies are ready to supply products not only to Ukraine but also abroad, as soon as the legislation allows it. Dmytro Lutsenko, Executive Director of the Association of Ukrainian Distributors, said this in an interview with the "Komersant Ukrainian" YouTube channel.

“I am sure that all arms manufacturers are waiting for the European market to open for Ukrainian weapons to some extent. I think it’s no secret that this is currently prohibited by law during the war.

Most arms manufacturers would balance and make money on the European model: they would supply products at almost the cost price, and simply transfer the margin to the Armed Forces units as charity,” he explained.

Lutsenko noted that many modern Ukrainian products may look similar to Soviet ones.

“However, they actually work quite differently. I know defense industry manufacturers who mark their products with a QR code, which you follow and get instructions on how to use it,” he said.

It should be reminded that after the start of Russia’s full-scale aggression, the Ukrainian defense industry has significantly increased the production and development of modern weapons, including drones, armored vehicles and artillery systems. Many of the developments have been combat tested at the front, which increases the interest of foreign customers.

Ukrainian producers’ access to EU markets is hampered by bureaucratic procedures, certification and standardization requirements in accordance with NATO standards. At the same time, some EU countries have already started bilateral negotiations with Ukrainian companies and are initiating joint production projects to strengthen the region’s defense capabilities and reduce dependence on supplies from outside Europe.
