Ukrainian sailors released from pirate captivity in Senegal

Nine sailors, including two Ukrainian citizens, have been released from pirate captivity in Senegal. This was reported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports
According to the Department of Consular Service, the release was made possible by the coordinated actions of the shipowner, his representatives, as well as with the active assistance of Ukrainian diplomats in Senegal.
“On December 25, nine sailors captured by pirates were released from captivity. Among them are two Ukrainian citizens,” the Foreign Ministry said.
The incident occurred on December 3, when a Portuguese-flagged ship was attacked by pirates in the territorial waters of Equatorial Guinea. As a result of the attack, all nine crew members were captured.
The foreign ministry emphasized that the successful return of the sailors was the result of prompt international coordination and constant diplomatic work. After the release, the crew was immediately handed over to doctors for examination.
According to preliminary data, the health condition of all the released men is assessed as satisfactory.
The sailors are already preparing to return home.
