Ukrainian children who live abroad because of the war often do not have the opportunity to study according to the Ukrainian curriculum due to the lack of Saturday schools. This was written in her blog by Violetta Dvornikova, a public figure and head of the European Association of Women of Ukraine, according to [Kommersant]

Thus, referring to the data of the Accounting Chamber, Dvornikova noted that today more than 900 thousand Ukrainian schoolchildren study in schools of European countries.

“At the same time, there are only about 500 Saturday and Sunday schools. To reach at least the majority of children, we need at least 850 such institutions,” she emphasized.

Teachers of Saturday schools mostly work on enthusiasm, receiving support from local communities and foundations, while parents have to look for premises and textbooks themselves, the civic activist added.

Dvornikova emphasizes that Ukraine needs to create a state system of support for Saturday schools, including funding, textbooks, educational hubs at embassies, and official recognition of teachers’ work abroad.

“While Ukraine has not created systemic support, Russian educational centers are actively filling this niche. There are already cases when Ukrainian children attend such institutions in parallel, and this is a dangerous trend,” Dvornikova warned.

As reported by [Kommersant], in Odesa region, teachers did not receive the government-guaranteed additional payment of UAH 2,600.
