Ukrainians will help Persian Gulf countries shoot down Iranian drones
2 March 03:11
Prime Minister Keir Starmer said that the UK will bring in Ukrainian experts to help fight Iranian drones attacking countries in the Persian Gulf.
Starmer made this announcement during a speech on March 1, according to "Komersant Ukrainian".
“We will also bring in experts from Ukraine who, together with our own experts, will help our partners in the Persian Gulf to shoot down the Iranian drones that are attacking them,” the British prime minister said.
During this address, Starmer also announced that he had allowed the US to use Royal Air Force bases in Cyprus to defend against Iranian strikes. Previously, the British government had refused the United States’ request, fearing possible violations of international law.
Starmer changed his position due to the massive strikes that Iran launched on countries that did not participate in the US-Israeli operation. According to the prime minister, the missiles hit airports and hotels where UK citizens were staying, as well as a military base in Bahrain, which nearly resulted in the death of British soldiers. France, Germany, and the UK issued a joint statement condemning the “indiscriminate and disproportionate” Iranian attacks and emphasizing their readiness to strike back.
Israeli and US military operation against Iran
On February 28, Israel attacked the Iranian capital, Tehran. Subsequently, US President Donald Trump said that the US military had launched a “major combat operation” against Iran with the aim of “eliminating imminent threats from the Iranian regime.” He accused the Iranian authorities of “financing and training” militants in Syria, Lebanon, Iraq, and Hamas in Palestine. According to him, the goal of the military operation is to “destroy Iran’s missile industry and fleet” and “ensure that it cannot destabilize the world.”
The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said it had launched missiles and drones toward Israel and attacked US military bases in Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates.
Against the backdrop of the US military operation against Iran, French President Emmanuel Macron said that Paris is calling for an urgent meeting of the UN Security Council.
The European Union said it reaffirms its “unwavering commitment to regional security and stability” in the Middle East.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said it was fair to give Iranians a chance to get rid of the “terrorist regime and guarantee the safety of all nations that have suffered from attacks from Iran.”
On February 28, Trump wrote that Iran’s supreme leader Ali Khamenei was dead. This information was later confirmed by the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA).
On March 1, the IRGC announced that it was launching “the most destructive offensive operation in the history of the Islamic Republic” against Israel and “American terrorist bases.” Trump called on the Iranian regime to abandon these plans and threatened to respond with a “very strong strike.”
