“Ukrainians will not give away their land”: Zelensky refuses to discuss exchange of territories

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that the country’s Constitution excludes any territorial concessions. He rejected the idea of a “land swap” with Russia, which was previously proposed by the American leader. The Ukrainian president made this statement against the backdrop of the upcoming meeting between Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump in Alaska on August 15. It is not yet known whether Zelenskyy will join these talks.
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy recorded a video message in which he rejected any “exchange of territories” as part of a possible settlement of the war.
Zelensky said that Ukraine’s position on its territories is enshrined in the country’s Constitution.
“The answer to the Ukrainian territorial issue is already in the Constitution of Ukraine. No one will deviate from this,” he said.
He added that Ukrainians will not “give away” their land.
Earlier, U.S. President Donald Trump said that territories could be “exchanged” as part of the settlement of the war between Russia and Ukraine.
“You’re looking at a territory that has been fought over for three and a half years <...> So we’re considering this option <...> we want to get some back and exchange some,” Sky News quoted him as saying.
