Ukrainians declared a record UAH 36 billion of foreign income: what it means and why it matters

This year, Ukrainians are declaring their income more actively than before, especially those received abroad or from inheritance.
This was reported by theacting head of the State Tax Service, Lesia Karnaukh, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.
According to her, since the beginning of the year, foreign income has been declared for UAH 36 billion, and inheritance and donated property – for UAH 15.9 billion.
In total, Ukrainians have filed more than 226 thousand declarations of property and income in nine months.
Where most income comes from
According to the State Tax Service, citizens declared the largest amounts of income from:
- foreign income – UAH 36 billion
- inheritance or donation of property – UAH 15.9 billion
- sale of movable or immovable property – UAH 7.5 billion;
- investment income – UAH 6.1 billion;
- other taxable income – UAH 4.8 billion;
- property lease – UAH 3.7 billion.
The largest amount of tax – more than UAH 2 billion – was paid by a resident of Kyiv, which is a record for the year.
What the tax authorities say
Lesia Karnaukh calls these figures a sign of a change in the financial culture of Ukrainians:
“The annual increase in the number of Ukrainians indicates a growing culture of transparent declaration. It’s not just about a mandatory procedure, but about responsibility and trust.”
The State Tax Service notes that a high level of voluntary declarations facilitates budget revenue planning and strengthens trust in government institutions, especially during martial law.
