In the coming days, Ukraine will be hit by a series of cyclones that will bring snow, rain, strong winds, and icy roads. The bad weather will affect most regions of the country and may complicate the situation on the roads and in populated areas. This was reported in an exclusive comment to "Komersant Ukrainian" by Natalia Golenia, a forecaster at the Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Center.

According to her, weather conditions will remain difficult until at least the end of the week.

Ukraine will be hit by two cyclones at once

Natalia Golenia explained that two cyclones will pass through Ukraine in the near future.

“By the end of the week, two more cyclones are expected to pass through Ukraine. One will move from Crimea through the Dnipropetrovsk and Kharkiv regions. This means that bad weather will affect most regions, except for the western ones,” the forecaster said.

According to her, more stable frosty weather will remain in western Ukraine, while most other regions will be affected by precipitation.

“In the west, more or less frosty weather will prevail, with above-zero temperatures possible in Zakarpattia during the day. The rest of the territory will see snow, especially in the north, as well as in Vinnytsia, Cherkasy, and Odesa regions,” Golenya explained.

Snow, rain, and ice: where will the situation be most difficult?

The forecaster warned that mixed precipitation is expected in the south and east, which poses a particular danger.

“The south and east will see snow and rain. We also expect gusts of wind. At sub-zero temperatures, rain may fall and form ice, especially in the central and eastern regions,” the expert stressed.

The situation may be particularly difficult in the central regions and in the Kharkiv region.

“In the central regions and Kharkiv region, there will be rain at sub-zero temperatures, which will cause ice. The weather conditions are quite difficult,” Golenya said.

A new atmospheric front will bring a new wave of snow

According to weather forecasters, after a short break, Ukraine will be hit by another atmospheric front.

“Then, from the west, on February 19-20, we will be affected by a new atmospheric front. The west and north will be covered with snow again,” the forecaster said.

Currently, Ukraine is experiencing a temporary drop in temperature between cyclones.

“Today we have a break between cyclones. Therefore, most regions are experiencing frosty weather. The greatest temperature fluctuations will be in the south and east, where both above-zero and below-zero temperatures are possible,” Golenya explained.

Winter will last at least until March

According to the forecaster, early warming should not be expected.

“As for spring, there are no forecasts of early warming yet. The beginning of March is predicted to have temperatures close to or below normal,” she said.

The expert added that winter weather may linger into March.

“We can say that winter will definitely last until the end of February. Perhaps the first ten days of March will also be cool and frosty,” Natalia Golenia concluded.

Forecasters urge Ukrainians to follow updates on forecasts and warnings about dangerous weather conditions, especially due to the risk of ice and heavy precipitation.
