Ukrposhta has suspended operations at its branches in the city of Orikhiv and the neighboring village of Preobrazhenka in the Zaporizhzhia region due to the deteriorating security situation, the company’s CEO Ihor Smelyansky said in a telegram, according to "Komersant Ukrainian".
“There are days for difficult decisions. Today is one of those days. For over two years, Ukrposhta remained the only company that continued to operate in the city of Orikhiv and the village of Preobrazhenka in the Polohiv community in Zaporizhzhia. Today, we made the difficult decision to close these branches,” Smelyansky wrote.
The distance from Orikhiv to Zaporizhia is approximately 40 kilometers. For the past two years, Ukrposhta has been the only company that continued to operate in Orikhiv and Preobrazhenka.
“Despite the extremely difficult situation, our postal workers refused to abandon their customers until the very end. Their courage commands deep respect. But the safety of people – both our employees and residents – must be a priority. Over the past week, we lost a car there. Another car was lost by the local military-civilian administration while trying to help us. So, unfortunately, working in these settlements has become not just dangerous—it has become an unacceptable risk,” said the CEO of Ukrposhta.
Employees of closed branches were asked to decide where they want to continue working. At the same time, Ukrposhta hopes to resume work in these settlements once the situation stabilizes.
“At the same time, the vast majority of pensions and “Winter Support” have already been paid out, and we will continue to serve the residents of Orikhiv and Preobrazhenka in the village of Tavriiske. Our employees are now deciding where they want to continue working. And we, of course, very much hope that we will definitely return — especially since our Armed Forces are making some progress in this direction,” Smelyansky wrote.
According to the website of the Orikhiv City Military Administration, the civilian population is currently being evacuated from the region at the request of community residents.
According to information from the Polohiv District Military Administration, over the past week, the occupiers have carried out nearly 3,000 strikes on settlements in the Polohiv District. As a result of enemy shelling during this period, one person was killed and five residents of the district were wounded in the territory controlled by Ukraine.
