18 November 11:17
In the evening of November 17, Dnipro came under a massive attack by the Shahedis. The shelling damaged the building of the Suspilne Dnipro TV station and Ukrainian Radio Dnipro.
The shelling caused a fire, shattered windows and doors, and damaged the building’s ceiling and roof.
This was reported by "Komersant Ukrainian" with reference to Suspilne.
At the time of the attack, there were no employees in the editorial office.
According to Suspilne Dnipro editor-in-chief Yevhen Pedashenko, the first floor of the building, where a large studio is located, was partially destroyed.
“We can’t get to the second floor now and assess the extent of the damage because there are certain obstacles. The main thing we emphasize is that all our employees are alive and well. We continue to work, continue to broadcast live on Channel One and work on all our digital platforms, Suspilne Dnipro, and try to restore our work as soon as possible,” he said.
According to Valeriya Bovsha, head of the newsroom, the staff learned about the attack on the newsroom building from a colleague who lives nearby.
“Our colleague, a video editor who lives next to the branch, wrote that there was a very powerful and loud explosion, that windows were smashed in her house and that she could see the roof of our building on fire. After that, there were several more explosions. When it was more or less safe, our driver was able to come here and see the consequences,” she said.
The strike partially destroyed the ceilings and roof. In some places, the ceiling and walls collapsed. Due to strong winds, the fire that started on the roof quickly spread to the entire building.
“This morning we managed to visit the editorial office and saw the consequences of the destruction. We took out two laptops and a surviving flower, bulletproof vests. A cameraman and a journalist were in the camera room, they managed to save several cameras, they are working,” said Valeria Bovsha.
One of the branch’s vehicles was also burned. In addition, according to the head of the newsroom, there is a possibility of a collapse in the building, so it is dangerous to be there.
Dnipro Mayor Borys Filatov commented on the Russian attack on the Suspilne Dnipro newsroom on Facebook. He clarified that the attack also damaged the TV tower.
“Yesterday you f*ckers outdid yourselves. You hit the TV tower and the former Soviet TV center, where Suspilne journalists have been sitting for a long time!!! Do you bastards really think that we still watch analog television like in the USSR? Do you think that if you deprive us of the TV, we will finally break down?” he wrote.
