The government has carried out a large-scale reorganization of ministries: what has changed

The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine at a meeting on 21 July decided to reorganize the structure of ministries, as a result of which four ministries ceased to exist. This was announced by the government representative in the Verkhovna Rada, Taras Melnychuk, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports
Social policy and national unity – now under one roof
The Ministry of Social Policy of Ukraine is changing its name. From now on it will be called the Ministry of Social Policy, Family and Unity of Ukraine.
This decision is related to the reorganization of the Ministry of National Unity, which will join the new united agency. Until the merger process is completed, the Ministry of National Unity will continue to perform its functions, but in the future all powers will be transferred to the Ministry of Social Policy, Family and Unity.
The new ministry will be the legal successor of the property, rights and obligations of the liquidated agency. At the same time, the previous Cabinet decision of 2015 on the Regulation of the Ministry of Social Policy became invalid.
It was also decided to reallocate budget funds. The following assignments have been transferred to the new Ministry:
- 83 million UAH – for the leadership and management of the reintegration of temporarily occupied territories;
- 56.4 million UAH – for informing the population in the occupied territories and warning about explosive objects;
- uAH 150 million – for support of Ukrainians abroad and facilitation of their return to Ukraine.
The Ministry of Economy expands its powers: agrarian policy and ecology are also in its competence
Another important decision is the renaming of the Ministry of Economy of Ukraine. Now it will have a new name – the Ministry of Economy, Environment and Agriculture of Ukraine.
This was preceded by the liquidation of two ministries:
- Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food,
- Ministry of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources.
Accordingly, all functions, rights and obligations of these bodies are transferred to the new united ministry. For this purpose, special liquidation commissions have been set up, and a new Regulation on the united ministry has been approved.
The Ministry of Defense becomes responsible for strategic industry
In addition, the government has liquidated the Ministry for Strategic Industries. Its functions were transferred to the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine.
The Ministry of Defense, according to the new Regulation, is now responsible not only for national security and defense, but also for:
- state industrial and military-industrial policy,
- the sphere of defense-industrial complex,
- aviation and space industries.
Thus, the Ministry of Defense gets a key role in the formation and implementation of policy in strategically important industries.
Thus, after the reorganization, 15 ministries will remain in the structure of the Cabinet of Ministers.
