The Cabinet of Ministers has allocated UAH 37 million from the reserve fund to eliminate the consequences of the Russian attack on the Strazhesko Institute of Cardiology in Kyiv. This was reported by the government’s representative in the Verkhovna Rada, Taras Melnychuk, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.

The funds have been transferred to the State Agency for Infrastructure Recovery and Development on an irrevocable basis. They will be used for emergency repairs to the clinical building, which was heavily damaged by the September 28 strike.

The government notes that these are the consequences of a military emergency that need to be addressed promptly, in particular to ensure the safety of patients and staff.

What damage was recorded

The building of the Institute of Cardiology was damaged at the level of 3-5 floors. Nevertheless, the institution continues to operate – doctors have retained the ability to receive patients and provide care, although some of the premises need urgent repairs.

In September, during a combined Russian attack on Kyiv, shrapnel and a blast wave hit the building of the institute, causing damage to the facade, windows and interior.

How this fits into the broader context

In recent weeks, the government has stepped up funding for civilian infrastructure that has been hit. In Fastiv alone, the cost of restoring the depot and trains after the shelling was estimated at around UAH 400 million.

The allocation of funds to the Strazhesko Institute may be the first stage of a broader program to restore medical facilities that have been targeted by Russian attacks.
