The government has allocated an additional 46.5 million hryvnias in subsidies to local communities to complete the modernization of school cafeterias. This was announced by Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko, according to "Komersant Ukrainian".

“We are continuing the systematic renovation of school infrastructure as part of the school meal reform,” Svyrydenko wrote.

Funding will be provided to 19 facilities that were launched in 2025 and are already at a high stage of completion—at least 60%.

According to the prime minister, this will help complete the ongoing projects as quickly as possible and open modern cafeterias for children.

“A modern school cafeteria provides safe conditions for daily meals and a decent space within the school. A state that cares for its children is investing in its own future. And high-quality school meals are an important part of this investment,” Svyrydenko explained.

According to her, approximately 20% of school kitchens have already been modernized. 188 of them were renovated using state subsidies. Additionally, over 1,500 cafeterias have been renovated using local budgets and with the support of international partners. School meals are already being provided to students in grades 1–11 in frontline communities and grades 1–4 in other regions. As Svyrydenko says, the government’s goal is to provide hot lunches to all schoolchildren across the country starting September 1 of this year.
