In Ukraine, the berry business is becoming increasingly popular not only among agricultural holdings, but also among public personalities. Athletes, artists and politicians are getting involved in horticulture, investing in berry crops. The chairman of the association “Ukrsadvynprom” Volodymyr Pechko told about it in an interview to YouTube-channel "Komersant Ukrainian".
“There are good examples, for example: boxing champion, our pride Oleksandr Usik, planted 100 hectares of blueberries,” he said.
According to him, other famous Ukrainians also show interest in berries. So, singer Kamalia together with her husband, businessman and billionaire of Pakistani origin Mohammad Zahoor, invested in the cultivation of blueberries and strawberries.
“For a moment – Kamalia, the singer, who is the wife of Mohammad Zahoor, a billionaire of Pakistani origin – they have also planted berries – both blueberries and strawberries. Or, for example, Serhiy Labaziuk, a people’s deputy, he and his brother have a holding of about 600 thousand hectares. They also planted currants, apples and various berry crops,” Pecko said.
Recall that according to the Ministry of Agrarian Policy, despite the full-scale war, Ukraine maintains a leading position among European producers of berries and fruits.
In 2023-2024, agrarians actively restored plantings even in frontline areas, in particular in the west and center of the country.
Earlier, the government introduced programs to partially compensate the cost of planting orchards and developing processing to support producers in crisis conditions.
