India experiences new outbreak of deadly Nipah virus

India is urgently taking measures to contain the Nipah virus after five cases of infection were reported and nearly 100 people were quarantined. Experts fear the risk of further spread.
Earlier this week, two cases of infection among staff were confirmed, and three new cases of infection were confirmed in recent days. This was reported by the Press Trust of India news agency, according to "Komersant Ukrainian".
Among the new confirmed cases are a doctor, a nurse, and a medical facility employee. After the first case was detected on Monday, nearly 100 people were ordered to remain in home quarantine.
At the same time, an official from the West Bengal Health Department said that the male nurse’s condition is improving, but the woman remains in extremely serious condition. Both are being treated in the intensive care unit.
Experts believe that the people contracted the virus from animals, most likely bats. Former president of the Indian Medical Association Rajiv Jayadevan noted that human infections with the Nipah virus are rare and are associated with accidental contact between humans and bats, in particular, the consumption of fruit that may have been infected by bats.
