26 March 12:46

The man who fired an automatic rifle at police officers in Odesa was killed during his arrest. He refused to cooperate with negotiators and, during the special operation, fired his weapon at members of the KORD unit.

This was reported by "Komersant Ukrainian", citing the National Police of Ukraine.

According to law enforcement officials, the use of force against the shooter was necessary to stop the threat to the lives of police officers.

A special police operation was launched in the region to apprehend the shooter. Within a few hours, police located the suspect: he was hiding in an unfinished building. During negotiations, the man began firing at law enforcement officers from the third floor; in response, KORD officers also opened fire. The suspect was killed.

An investigative team is currently working at the scene, and the State Bureau of Investigation and the prosecutor’s office have been notified of the incident.

As a reminder, the 45-year-old Odessa resident was wanted for violating military registration rules. During a document check, he began firing an automatic weapon at police officers and fled in a car.

As a result of the attack, two patrol officers sustained gunshot wounds. The officers’ condition is extremely critical. Medical personnel are providing necessary care and taking every possible and impossible measure to save the victims’ lives.

Two criminal cases have been opened regarding this incident: one by the police under Article 348 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine and one by the State Bureau of Investigation under Article 365 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
