In occupied Mariupol, preparations are underway to open a drama theater that has become a symbol of the tragedy of war

The Russian occupiers are preparing to open a drama theater in Mariupol in December 2025.
This is reported by "Komersant Ukrainian" with reference to the Telegram of the city council of Ukrainian Mariupol.
“The occupiers claim that the work on the “restoration” of the theater has reached the final stage. The place, which became one of the biggest war crimes of the Russian invaders, is now being turned into a venue for Russian performances and concerts,” the message says.
According to the mayor’s office, the Russians plan to open a theater in December to stage Russian plays and actually “sing and dance” on the bones of the dead Mariupol residents.
The Mariupol City Council reminded that on March 16, 2022, Russian troops dropped two powerful bombs on the theater, where civilians with families, including children, were hiding from the shelling. The word “CHILDREN” was written in front of the building as a hope for salvation. After the occupation of the territory, the first thing the Russians did was to fence the scene of their crime. This was done to hide the dismantling of the rubble with the bodies of the dead and to avoid documenting the evidence.
Tragedy in the Mariupol Drama Theater
As you know, Mariupol is a city that has become a symbol of heroic resistance and untold suffering during the Russian aggression in Ukraine. After a three-month siege from February 24 to May 20, 2022, the city came under full enemy occupation.
The Mariupol Drama Theater was destroyed on March 16, 2022, by Russian air bombs. Hundreds of civilians, including children, were hiding in the building of the drama theater.
The enemy attack killed at least 600 people, making this case one of Russia’s largest war crimes in Ukraine.
