Russia says it will not attend the next peace summit

The Russian Federation will not take part in the next summit on the settlement of the conflict in Ukraine, as it does not accept ultimatums. This was stated by Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Galuzin, according to "Komersant Ukrainian" with reference to Russian media.
“We are aware of the intentions of the Kyiv regime and its Western curators to ‘rehabilitate’ themselves after the failed ‘peace summit’ in Burgenstock, Switzerland, in mid-June this year and try to hold a similar event… They are even thinking of inviting Russia… A specific location has not been determined. However, geography is not of fundamental importance. What matters is the content, which is very clear,”
– Galuzin said.
According to him, Russia hears the rhetoric with which Ukraine is promoting the “absolutely hopeless and ultimatum ‘Zelenskyy formula'” and sees a deliberate disregard for other initiatives to resolve the Ukrainian crisis.
“We have yet another fraud detection. We do not accept such ultimatums and are not going to participate in such “summits”,”
– the Deputy Minister concluded.
This is how Russia reacted to Bloomberg’s report that Ukraine wants to hold a summit with Russia before the US elections.
“The formula for peace”
on 11 October 2022, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced to the leaders of the G7 countries a “peace formula” to overcome the Russian threat. It includes 10 points:
- Radiation and nuclear safety.
- Food security.
- Energy security.
- Release of all prisoners and deportees.
- Implementation of the UN Charter, restoration of Ukraine’s territorial integrity and world order.
- Withdrawal of Russian troops from Ukraine and cessation of hostilities.
- Return of justice.
- Countering ecocide.
- Preventing escalation.
- Fixing the end of the war.
The UN General Assembly adopted a resolution with the Ukrainian peace formula in 2023, on the eve of the first anniversary of Russia’s full-scale invasion. Seven states voted against it: Russia, Belarus, North Korea, Syria, Eritrea, Mali, and Nicaragua. The abstentions included China, India, Iran, Kazakhstan, Pakistan, and Armenia. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said that Russia would not negotiate on the basis of Zelenskyy’s “peace formula”.
During the Peace Summit, held in Switzerland on 15-16 June 2024, participants agreed on a common position on three points: food security, nuclear and energy security, and the release of all captured and deported Ukrainians abducted by Russia.
