The Ministry of Agrarian Policy has been liquidated in Ukraine – its functions have been transferred to a new agency

on July 21, the government officially decided to liquidate the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine and the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources. Their functions were transferred to the newly created Ministry of Economy, Environment and Agriculture of Ukraine.

This was announced by the permanent representative of the Cabinet of Ministers in the Verkhovna Rada Taras Melnychuk, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.

“The Ministry of Economy, Environment and Agriculture of Ukraine has been designated as the legal successor to the property, rights and obligations of both liquidated ministries,” he wrote.

Liquidation commissions have also been set up and the Regulations on the new agency have been approved.

Context:

  • onJuly 17, the Verkhovna Rada approved a new government. It was headed by Yulia Svyrydenko, who had previously been First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy.
  • The new unified ministry is headed by Oleksiy Sobolev.
  • Despite calls from agrarian associations to maintain a separate specialized agency, the government decided to merge the functions of economy, environment, and agriculture into one structure.

Ministries eliminated

  1. Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food – its powers were transferred to the new Ministry of Economy, Environment and Agriculture
  2. Ministry of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources – also merged into the new ministry
  3. Ministry of Strategic Industries – its functions are transferred to the Ministry of Defense
  4. Ministry of National Unity – merged into the Ministry of Social Policy, Family and Unity
