The price of white cabbage is falling rapidly in Ukraine: what are the reasons?

Since the beginning of April , the Ukrainian white cabbage market has seen another drop in prices, according to analysts from the EastFruit project, as reported by "Komersant Ukrainian".
The main reason for the drop in prices is the low quality of the product, caused by prolonged storage.
According to daily monitoring data, over the past weekend alone, white cabbage prices at Ukrainian farms fell by an average of 21%. Today, most transactions are taking place at prices ranging from 3 to 9 UAH/kg ($0.07–0.20/kg).
Market participants attribute the further decline in prices to the rapid deterioration in cabbage quality at local farms due to prolonged storage. Demand for this product also continues to decline, which puts additional downward pressure on prices.
It is worth noting that current cabbage prices in Ukraine are already, on average, 84% lower than a year ago. As a reminder, in early April 2025, sales were conducted at 35–42 UAH/kg ($0.80–0.96/kg). Analysts suggest that the price decline may continue as the quality of vegetables in storage deteriorates.
