Tomatoes are rapidly becoming cheaper in Ukraine
9 August 09:15
This week, another decline in prices was recorded on the Ukrainian greenhouse tomato market.
This is reported by analysts of the EastFruit project, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.
Favorable weather in most regions has made it possible to resume active harvesting both in greenhouses and in open fields. At the same time, supply volumes are growing, which only increases pressure on the market – especially given that demand, according to farmers, remains sluggish.
Today, the price of quality tomatoes ranges from UAH 40-55 per kilogram, which is 12% less than at the end of last week.
Growers and wholesalers attribute the problems with sales of outdoor produce to the poor quality of vegetables, as heat and drought have hit the plants hard. As a result, burns and cracks appear on the fruit, which negatively affects the appearance and marketability of tomatoes.
At the same time, despite the current decline in prices, greenhouse tomatoes are still much more expensive than last year: the price increased by 69% compared to the same period in 2024. The reason for this jump is a reduction in the volume of cultivation in the country.
