In Ukraine, you can again change your mobile operator without losing your number
24 December 2024 15:38
Ukraine has restored the ability to change mobile operators while retaining the number. This is reported by "Komersant Ukrainian" with reference to the National Commission for Communications.
on December 20, 2024, the database of ported numbers was suspended to expand the system’s capacity. The reason for this was an almost 3.5-fold increase in the number of applications for number portability, and, as a result, queues at the level of technological processes.
Lifecell said that it had received more than 17,000 applications for number portability per day.
“We would like to inform you that the capacity has now been expanded, and the database has resumed its work since December 23, 2024, and is operating normally,” the National Communications Commission said in a statement.
According to the Ukrainian State Center for Radio Communications (UCRC), as the administrator of the ported numbers database, as of 18:00 on December 23, 2024
- 25,450 applications for number portability have been processed;
- 1,849 numbers have been transferred.
The National Commission noted that there were no queues during the process.
“Those who have applied and are waiting for their number to be ported will receive the result in the near future,” the statement said.
The MNP number portability service is a service that allows subscribers to keep their mobile number when switching to another mobile operator.
What about the increase in tariffs by mobile operators
In early December, Kyivstar, the largest mobile operator, announced that it was raising its fees by 25% on average. In return, it promised to provide subscribers with more services and bonuses.
on December 16, Vodafone picked up the baton, warning that a number of its prepaid tariffs would change on December 24: their cost was to increase by UAH 70-120.
But the very next day, Vodafone decided to postpone the previously announced changes to the new tariffs.
At the same time, the company tried to explain why it had to change the tariffs. Among the factors that led to the change in the cost and content of the tariff plans this year, Vodafone named the rapid rise in electricity costs, additional costs for backup power, and repair of equipment damaged by the war. In addition, the company’s tax payments have increased.
