The situation with energy supply may affect train traffic in winter and autumn. This was reported by "Komersant Ukrainian" reports with reference to the press service of Ukrzaliznytsia.
Power outages and stabilisation blackouts as a result of missile and drone attacks by the Russian Armed Forces in the cold season could lead to trains running off schedule.
“According to forecasts, with the approach of the autumn-winter period, an increase in the shortage of electricity supply may affect the uninterrupted movement of trains,” Ukrzaliznytsia said.
Therefore, a separate company, UZ Energo, was created. It will generate electricity.
“Last winter, we helped the country’s power system to supply power to certain administrative units, and now, given the difficult situation with generation, we have to help the country get through the most difficult autumn and winter period in history. That is why the decision was made to build dozens of gas generating units with a total capacity of up to 250 MW,” said Yevhen Liashchenko, Chairman of the Board of JSC Ukrzaliznytsia.
The company will build gas-fired power plants with a capacity of up to 250 MW in different regions of Ukraine. First of all, they will be installed in regional centres and connected to the company’s networks, which will supply power to railway transport facilities, social services, and critical infrastructure facilities in other sectors of the economy.
