Polar explorers at the Ukrainian Antarctic station Akademik Vernadsky have named a huge iceberg drifting near the base after Magur. This was reported by the National Antarctic Research Center on its Facebook page, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.

The idea for the name was suggested by Inna Filtanovich on Instagram. Magura is the name of a picturesque mountain in the Lviv region, as well as the name of the winged daughter of the god Perun in Slavic mythology, the patron saint of brave warriors.

According to the polar explorers, it is also the name of a modern Ukrainian naval drone that has successfully engaged Russian ships and even helicopters. According to Inna, Magura, along with the names Sea Baby and Marichka, are three Ukrainian naval drones that have caused losses to the Russian Black Sea Fleet.

The name Sea Baby was previously given to a Weddell seal pup born near Vernadsky in 2024, and polar explorers named one of the new diesel generators installed in 2022 Marichka.

Thus, the Magura iceberg became a logical addition to this symbolic trio. The polar explorers will present the author of the idea with a chevron of the 30th Ukrainian Antarctic Expedition.
