UK and France strike at ISIS facility in Syria

4 January 05:11

On Saturday evening, January 3, British Typhoon fighter jets together with French Air Force aircraft struck an underground facility of the Islamic State terrorist organization in the mountains north of the city of Palmyra in Syria. The IS is likely to have used the facility as a weapons and explosives storage facility, the UK Ministry of Defense said, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports citing DW.

The strike was carried out through the tunnels leading to the facility, using Paveway IV guided bombs, the British military said. They emphasized that there were no civilians nearby at the time of the strike. The amount of damage caused to the facilities is being assessed, while “preliminary data indicate a successful defeat of the target,” the UK Ministry of Defense noted.

“This action demonstrates the UK’s leadership and determination to work alongside our allies to ensure that ISIS and its dangerous and violent ideologies do not re-emerge in the Middle East,” said UK Defense Secretary John Healey.

American Strikes on the Objects of the “Islamic State”

The United States leads the international coalition to fight the IS in Syria and Iraq. The group is believed to have suffered a military defeat by the United States and its allies. However, some Islamic State militants are still hiding in these two Middle Eastern countries and organizing terrorist attacks.

on December 13, an ISIS militant in Syria ambushed and killed two American soldiers and another American civilian. US President Donald Trump promised to respond. on December 20, the US military struck more than 70 Islamic State targets in different provinces of Syria, Pentagon Chief Pete Hagel said on social network X. According to him, among other things, ISIS weapons depots were hit. Both ground-based missiles and ammunition launched from fighter jets and attack helicopters were used. The attacks were carried out in coordination with the new Syrian government, Gagset said.

on December 26, U.S. President Donald Trump also wrote on Truth Social that U.S. troops had launched a “powerful and deadly” strike against Islamic State facilities in Nigeria. “Earlier I warned these terrorists that if they didn’t stop the slaughter of Christians, they would have to pay dearly, and tonight they did,” the White House chief explained, promising that under his leadership, the United States “will not allow radical Islamic terrorism to flourish.”
