From 2-3 weeks to 2026: How have the predictions of politicians and molfars about the end of the war in Ukraine changed?
23 January 19:16
ANALYSIS FROM From “24 hours” and “2-3 weeks” to 2026. Since the beginning of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, the end of the war has been one of the most discussed topics in society. Politicians, analysts, experts and even people with extraordinary abilities have all tried to predict the date of the long-awaited peace. From short-term promises that the war would be over in a few weeks to longer-term forecasts for years to come, such statements have often become the basis for discussion, debate, and hope. [comersant] has collected a variety of predictions about the end of the war: from statements by world leaders and Ukrainian politicians to predictions by Carpathian molfars.
24 Hours of Donald Trump
After winning the election and moving into the White House, many presidents at some point fail to fulfill their campaign promises. Donald Trump, however, will break one of them right away – even before he is sworn in – by breaking his important promise to end the war in Ukraine within 24 hours.
“Before I even get to the Oval Office, immediately after we win the election, I’m ending this horrible war between Russia and Ukraine,” Trump said at a rally in June.
24 hours of Petro Poroshenko
The fifth President of Ukraine, Petro Poroshenko, supported Donald Trump’s approach to resolving the situation in Ukraine, in particular through the appointment of special representatives. According to Poroshenko, this approach was extremely effective during the work of Kurt Volker, and now the professionalism of General Keith Kellogg gives grounds for cautious optimism.
“We can stop the war in 24 hours, as President Trump promised, and do it without firing a single shot or spending a dollar. We need only one signature,” Poroshenko emphasized.
He noted that dozens of agreements, guarantees or memorandums are not needed to end the war. It is enough to sign the Washington Treaty, which will open the way for Ukraine to join NATO.
The war may end tomorrow
The head of the Presidential Office, Andriy Yermak, commented on the statement of former US President Donald Trump, who had previously promised to end the war in Ukraine in one day. Yermak emphasized that in matters of war, one should not make hasty predictions or name specific deadlines.
“I think no one on this planet knows exactly when this war will end. If it depended on Ukraine and the entire democratic world, everything would be over tomorrow,” said Andriy Yermak.
100 days of Keith Kellogg
Keith Kellogg, who was nominated by Donald Trump to the post of Special Representative for Ukraine and Russia, expressed confidence that agreements to end the war could be reached within the first 100 days of the new administration. The general said this in an interview with Fox News. Kellogg noted that he could not speak on behalf of Trump, because “he speaks for himself.” At the same time, the general voiced his own vision of the timeline.
“I would like to set a goal for myself on a personal and professional level. Let’s set a deadline of 100 days. This is the time when we can find a reliable and sustainable solution,” Keith Kellogg
Later, the Wall Street Journal reported that Trump did instruct Special Representative Kellogg to end the war in Ukraine in 100 days.
President of Finland bets on 3-6 months
US President Donald Trump is committed to achieving peace in Ukraine and is likely to consider a window of opportunity lasting from three to six months. This was stated by President of Finland Alexander Stubb.
“The timeline is changing: from the promised 24 hours to a period of three to six months. Perhaps this is the window of opportunity we are dealing with now. But the optimistic side is that Trump is demonstrating steadfastness in his desire to achieve peace,” Stubb said.
According to the Finnish president, Trump probably wants to repeat the success that observers attribute to his role in brokering a peace agreement between Israel and Hamas. This approach could become the basis for a peaceful settlement in Ukraine.
The war will end in 2025
A number of politicians are inclined to believe that the war may end in 2025. First Vice Prime Minister of Ukraine Yulia Svyrydenko makes this bet, but notes that Ukraine needs practical steps to ensure security.
“Business expects the active phase of the war to end this year. But, of course, we have to negotiate security guarantees and their practical implementation,” said Svyrydenko.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy also said that Ukraine wants the war to end this year, but, importantly, with security guarantees, otherwise Putin will return again with an even larger army.
According to Zelenskyy, at least 200,000 European peacekeepers are needed to prevent a new Russian attack on Ukraine after the ceasefire.
On Tuesday, January 21, the President of Ukraine spoke at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.
“Trump told me that he will do everything to end the war this year. I told him that we are your partner… We want to end the war this year. But not just quickly, but reliably,” Volodymyr Zelenskyy said.
End the war for the sake of cadence, – Zelensky
It is worth recalling here that President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy hoped that during his term it would be possible to end the war in Donbas.
“I am confident that we will end this war during my term. I am personally confident. I said that I am ready to wait for one year, ready to work for one year. If the Minsk process does not work, we will change our tactics. We are ready for that. A year has not yet passed,” Zelensky said
Intelligence is betting on 2026
According to Kyrylo Budanov, Russia considers the end of 2025 and the beginning of 2026 to be the key to its victory in the war against Ukraine.
“If they (the Russians – ed.) do not emerge from this war as conditional winners, they will be out of the picture of seeing Russia as a superpower for the foreseeable future, which is a horizon of 30 years or more,” Kyrylo Budanov believes.
In this case, there will be only two major players on the world stage: the United States and China. Russia, according to Budanov, will then be able to rely only on regional leadership, and this does not suit it.
Predictions that have expired
There were also predictions that did not materialize. At the beginning of 2022, Oleksiy Arestovych, an advisor to the head of the Presidential Office, said that Ukraine would face “a very difficult battle in the east, for Mariupol. And while the first phase of the war was decided in the north, the second key phase is centered in the east. According to him, the results of this battle will be crucial for further developments.
“I think everything will be decided in our favor. The enemy has no reserves to continue this phase of the war. It will take them at least 2-3 months to gather new reserves. Sanctions are killing their economy. Within 2-3 weeks, the situation should become clearer,” said Oleksiy Arestovych
on December 17, 2024, Ukrainian journalist Dmitry Gordon said that the hot phase of the war in Ukraine would end by the end of 2024. On December 29, Gordon repeated his forecast, noting that the war in Ukraine should end on December 30. However, this did not happen, and Gordon came out with an explanation. The journalist gave some details of the possible negotiations and claimed that the meeting was supposed to take place in a video conference format to “consolidate certain points”, after which “the hot phase of the war was supposed to end”.
“These talks ended in nothing, namely, a demarche on the part of Russia,” summarized Dmytro Gordon.
Forecast from the molfars
At the beginning of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, not only politicians and experts, but also people with extraordinary abilities, including the famous Carpathian molfar Magdalena Mochyowski, made predictions. The seer said that since the first day of the war, she had been receiving numbers in her dreams, which she said were related to the future course of events in Ukraine.
“These numbers were constantly associated with the number four. I thought: four weeks, well, four months. I have always said that in no case do I want it to be four years. So we pray that it will not be that long. It could still be the 4th of the month or the fourth of the year,” she said.
And in May 2024, the famous Carpathian molfar Mykhailo made his prediction about the end of the war in Ukraine and the political future of Russia. He says that the people will throw off the yoke of dictatorship, soldiers exhausted by the war will refuse to follow orders. People will take to the streets to protest against the war. The regime will be forced to capitulate.
“The end of Putin is coming. Next spring will be the beginning of great changes: sorrow will turn to joy, and Ukraine will begin to recover. In May, the world will see the end of the war, and the summer will bring peace,” said Molfar Mykhailo.
Despite the variety of terms and methods offered by politicians and seers alike, they all have one thing in common: faith in victory and hope for a better future. Time will tell which predictions will prove to be the most accurate. But the most important thing is the unity of the Ukrainian people and the support of the international community in achieving the common goal of peace and the restoration of Ukraine.
