The CHER’17 brand has released a limited edition charity collaboration with the Kyiv Metro to celebrate the 65th anniversary of the subway on November 6. This was reported by "Komersant Ukrainian" with reference to The Village Ukraine.

The collection is called “A drop about rhythm, people, and love for the city that never stops.” The design is inspired by the subway architecture: mosaics of the Zoloti Vorota station, panels from Khreshchatyk station, and subway symbols.

What is included in the collection

  • t-shirts with a touch effect that change color when touched;
  • t-shirts with prints: metro map, mosaic from the Golden Gate;
  • long (long T-shirt) with the image of a subway token;
  • checkered shirt;
  • black and white scarf;
  • shopper (eco-bag);
  • socks;
  • sticker pack (a set of stickers);
  • jewelry in the form of a metro token;
  • a keychain in the form of a metro token and a metro sign.
  • a scarf with a panel element from Khreshchatyk station.

All items are made in the colors of the subway.

Charitable component of the project

The proceeds from the sale of this collection will be donated to the Children of Heroes Foundation, which supports children who have lost their parents to war. The CHER’17 brand describes this as a thank you to the subway, which “keeps the rhythm of the city every day” and “where even on the most terrible nights it is safe.”

Why it’s important

First of all, it is an example of a Ukrainian fashion collaboration that does not just sell clothes, but includes the city’s architecture, symbolism, and history.

Second, the project has a social meaning through charity: helping children affected by the war.

In addition, the collection comes out at the time of the anniversary of a major urban infrastructure – 65 years of the Kyiv metro – which adds emotional weight.

It is also worth emphasizing that the style and execution (touch effect, prints, accessories) demonstrate that Ukrainian brands are capable of making complex and multifaceted product lines, not just designing and sewing basic styles.

Kyiv Metro: 65 years in the rhythm of the city

The Kyiv subway is the first and largest underground transportation system in Ukraine, which started operating on November 6, 1960. It was the fourth subway in the USSR after Moscow, Leningrad, and Tbilisi. Over 65 years, it has become not just transportation, but an integral part of city life and a symbol of the capital.

Today, the subway has three operating lines:

  • red (Sviatoshynsko-Brovarska)
  • blue (Kurenivsko-Chervonoarmiyska)
  • green (Syretsko-Pecherska).

The system has 52 stations and over 67 kilometers of tracks. Every day, the subway carries more than one and a half million passengers, ensuring the operation of the main transport artery of Kyiv.

The metro is known for its architecture: the Zoloti Vorota, Universytet, Lybidska, and Palats Ukraina stations have become real underground landmarks, and Arsenalna remains the deepest station in the world, 105.5 meters underground.

Since the beginning of the full-scale war with Russia, the Kyiv metro has become not only a transportation system, but also a shelter where hundreds of thousands of people find safety during air raids and missile attacks.

Today, the subway is being actively renovated: preparations are underway to launch the fourth line, the Podilsko-Vyhurivska line, which will connect Troyeschyna with the city center. At the same time, the subway is gradually switching to modern technologies: after the abolition of tokens in 2019, passengers use electronic tickets and bank cards.
