Video after the impact: SBU checks leakage of footage from Kyiv HPP amid blackout in Vyshhorod

30 December 17:55

The Security Service of Ukraine has launched an investigation into the spread of a video on social media showing the consequences of damage to the Kyiv hydroelectric power plant in Vyshhorod, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.

The Ukrhydroenergo company warns that such publications during the war can directly help Russia to adjust repeated strikes.

What prompted the inspection

Recently, a video with close-ups of the damage to the Kyiv hydroelectric power plant, which was damaged during a massive Russian attack on December 27, appeared on social media. The SBU is currently checking the fact of dissemination of the materials.

This was reported by Ukrhydroenergo, emphasizing that it is not just a violation of information discipline, but a potential threat to the safety of the facility and its personnel.

Why such videos are dangerous

The company explains that detailed footage of damage to critical infrastructure allows the enemy to

  • assess the extent of damage
  • identify vulnerabilities;
  • adjust further strikes.

That is why only authorized state bodies can publish information about the condition of hydroelectric power plants, thermal power plants, or other energy facilities. The dissemination of materials about the operation of air defense systems or the locations of missile and drone strikes is also prohibited.

Ukrhydroenergo notes that the authors of such videos may face criminal liability.

Attack on December 27: what is known

On the night and morning of December 27, Russia launched a combined attack on Kyiv and the region, using missiles of various types, including Daggers and Kalibr, as well as attack drones.

The main targets of the attack were energy infrastructure facilities, including hydroelectric power plants and thermal power plants in the capital and Kyiv region. Numerous hits, fires, and destruction were reported in Kyiv, and power outages occurred in residential areas.

The most difficult situation is on the left bank of the capital and in Vyshhorod, where the city has been without stable electricity for several days. On the right bank, there are blackout schedules in place, and emergency and emergency restrictions in Kyiv region.

On the eve of the attack, the SBU reported the detention in Kyiv of two Russian GRU agents who, according to investigators, were preparing to attack hydroelectric power plants. Both suspects face life in prison for high treason.
