Power cuts: DTEK told where and when there will be no electricity on 24 May

Today, 24 May, power outage schedules will be in effect in all oblasts. In Kyiv, Kyiv, Odesa, Dnipro and Donetsk regions, the schedules will be in effect throughout the day, both at night and during the day. This was reported by DTEK, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports

“Kyiv, Kyiv, Odesa, Donetsk, and Dnipro regions: according to Ukrenergo’s instructions, the outage schedules will be in effect all day – from 00:00 to 24:00,”

– the company said.

It is also noted that in Kyiv in particular, the limits set by Ukrenergo will be enough for an average of 76% of the capital’s needs.

Schedules of power outages are currently available on the websites of DTEK’s distribution system operators and in the company’s chatbots.

Ukrenergo said that on 24 May, hourly power outage schedules will be in effect for industrial and residential consumers from 00:00 to 24:00. The power supply to critical infrastructure facilities will not be restricted.

The reason for this is rainy weather and dense cloud cover in most regions of Ukraine, which prevents solar power plants from operating at maximum capacity. Accordingly, there will be a shortage of electricity in the power system during the daytime.

Where to find out about blackout schedules

You can get information on how electricity consumption restrictions will be applied in your region in your consumer account, on the official websites of regional power distribution companies, as well as on their social media pages.

The reason for the restrictions

Russian troops have repeatedly attacked energy infrastructure facilities in Ukraine this spring. In particular, at night and in the morning of 8 May, according to the Ministry of Energy, Russian forces attacked electricity generation and transmission facilities in six regions – Poltava, Kirovohrad, Zaporizhzhia, Lviv, Ivano-Frankivsk, and Vinnytsia.

Due to the power shortage, Ukrenergo then imposed restrictions on power supply for industry and business, but also warned that blackouts for household consumers were possible.

The reason for the restrictions is an increase in electricity consumption during the cold snap. The capacity of Ukrainian power plants is insufficient due to the effects of five missile and drone attacks by Russia on the Ukrainian power grid since 22 March.
