Military training of reserve officers has become mandatory for medical students

on January 1, the law amending Article 11 of the law on military duty and military service on military training of citizens under the program of training reserve officers of the medical service came into force, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports
According to the law, military training under the reserve officer training program is voluntary for citizens of Ukraine who have or are obtaining a higher education degree of at least a bachelor’s degree, are fit for military service for health reasons and have passed a professional and psychological selection.
At the same time, such training is mandatory for citizens of Ukraine who are pursuing higher education in medical and pharmaceutical specialties, are fit for military service for health reasons and have passed a professional psychological selection.
Responsibilities of higher education institutions
Higher education institutions of all forms of ownership and subordination that are licensed to conduct educational activities in medical and pharmaceutical specialties are obliged to ensure that students undergo military training under the reserve officer training program.
The implementation of the law is expected to meet the state’s needs for military medical personnel, and the implementation of its provisions will have a significant positive impact on the key rights and interests of servicemen who receive medical care at the pre-hospital, hospital and post-hospital (rehabilitation) stages, as well as contribute to improving the quality, timeliness and completeness of medical care during a special period in medical units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and other military formations, health care institutions of the Ministry of Health.
on July 29, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy signed a law according to which medical students will be trained as part of the program for training reserve officers of the medical service.
