‘He was where he was supposed to be’: American volunteer killed in Kyiv during Russian attack – NYT

American artist Fred Grandy, who was killed in a Russian air attack on Kyiv on June 17, came to Ukraine as a volunteer. His goal was to help clear the rubble after enemy shelling.

This is stated in the material of The New York Times, reports "Komersant Ukrainian".

According to the publication, Grundy arrived in the capital of Ukraine in late May, shortly before his 62nd birthday. He volunteered to help clean up the destroyed buildings.

His sister, who lives in the US state of Oregon, said that Fred always wanted to make the world a better place.

“He told me he felt he was where he was supposed to be. He was planning to stay for a few more months – at least five or six months – to help,” she was quoted as saying by the NYT.
