Eight electric cars in the top 10: how the Ukrainian car market has changed
5 January 12:17
Despite regular power outages in Ukraine due to massive shelling by Russia, Ukrainians actively bought electric cars in December, demonstrating a shift in consumer priorities in the car market. Even in the face of energy instability and war, electric cars not only remained popular, but actually pushed gasoline cars out of the top sales positions. This is evidenced by UkrAutoprom data, according to which most of the most popular models of the month are electric, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports
Volkswagen electric crossover is the market leader
The absolute sales leader in December was the Volkswagen ID.Unyx electric crossover, which sold 825 vehicles.
The second and third positions were taken by models of the Chinese brand BYD, which also confirms the growing popularity of electric cars from China in the Ukrainian market.

The only non-electric models in the top ten are Renault Duster and Toyota RAV-4, which only emphasizes the dominance of electric vehicles.
Tax incentives were canceled, but demand remained
It is important to note that as of January 1, the tax incentives that exempted electric vehicles from VAT ceased to be valid in Ukraine. From now on, value-added tax is charged both on the import of electric cars and on their sale in the domestic market.
Nevertheless, December’s figures show that Ukrainians were actively buying electric cars even before the end of the grace period, trying to take advantage of favorable conditions.
December became a record month for the car market
December 2025 went down in history not only as a month of electric cars, but also as a record-breaking month in terms of sales. Ukrainians bought 12.4 thousand cars in a month, the highest figure since March 2014.
