The city of Belgorod (Russian Federation) and its surroundings were shelled from Ukraine, Belgorod Region Governor Vyacheslav Gladkov reported on Telegram on the evening of Saturday, January 24. The official called the attack “the most massive” since the start of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and said that the city was likely fired upon with American HIMARS multiple launch rocket systems.
There were no casualties, and water supply disruptions were minor.
According to Gladkov, energy facilities in the city were damaged. The official did not provide any details on this matter, mentioning only a “farm building that caught fire” in one of the courtyards and damage to the roofs of two private houses in the village of Tavrovo near Belgorod.
The operational headquarters of the Belgorod region also reported the “most massive” shelling of Belgorod. They added that, according to preliminary data, there were no casualties.
Complaints from some residents about power outages appeared on city Telegram channels. There was no large-scale blackout in Belgorod. The Belgorod region water utility reported that all its systems were operating normally, but “minor disruptions are possible in some areas due to power surges.” The organization promised to address water issues “on a case-by-case basis.”
In early January, Belgorod faced more significant consequences of the shelling, with large-scale problems with heat and water supply in the city. At that time, Gladkov urged residents to buy generators themselves in case of heat and electricity outages. As the official said at the time, “the protection of one’s own home is largely in the hands of the owners.”
