The Palestinian authorities have committed to Canada and the international community to carry out the necessary reforms and general elections in 2026. This was stated by Prime Minister Mark Carney, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports.
“The Palestinian Authority has made direct commitments to Canada and the international community to carry out the necessary reforms, including a radical overhaul of the governance system, general elections in 2026 in which Hamas will not be able to participate, and the demilitarization of the Palestinian state,” the statement said.
The Government of Canada has recognized the statehood of Palestine. Carney noted that the Israeli government is methodically working to prevent the creation of a Palestinian state. Israel is pursuing a policy of expanding settlements in the West Bank, which is contrary to international law, the Canadian prime minister added.
