Drivers warned of danger: ice and up to 20 cm of snow

This weekend, some regions of Ukraine will be affected by bad weather. Ice is expected on the roads, so drivers should be extremely careful. This was announced by the first deputy head of the Patrol Police Department, Oleksiy Biloshitsky, "Komersant Ukrainian" reports

According to weather forecasters, the deterioration of weather conditions will affect the western and part of the central regions.

In this regard, the first (yellow) level of danger has been declared:

  • the first (yellow) level of danger has been declared for most regions;
  • the second (orange) level – for the Carpathians, where the most intense precipitation is expected.

Snow and ice cover will cover 12 regions

Significant precipitation, mostly in the form of snow, is forecast in the following regions:

  • Zakarpattia
  • Lviv region
  • Ivano-Frankivsk
  • Chernivtsi
  • Ternopil
  • Khmelnytsky
  • Volyn
  • Rivne
  • Zhytomyr
  • Vinnytsia
  • Kyiv/

In these regions, ice will form on the roads, which will significantly hamper traffic.

Air temperatures will fluctuate between -3°C and 5°C throughout the day, and in the Carpathians at night it may drop to -8°C.

Up to 20 cm of snow: what the police say

“The snow cover can reach up to 20 centimeters in the Zakarpattia region,” Biloshitsky said.

According to him, heavy precipitation combined with ice will pose a danger to both drivers and pedestrians. The Patrol Police emphasize that the risk of accidents increases dramatically during periods of such weather.

  • use winter tires
  • pedestrians – to be as visible and attentive as possible at crossings.
