Martial law and mobilization in Ukraine extended: until what date?
26 January 23:34
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has signed laws extending martial law and general mobilization. The relevant documents have been published on the Verkhovna Rada website, according to "Komersant Ukrainian".
According to the adopted laws, both regimes will remain in effect for another 90 days, until May 4, 2026.
When will the laws come into force?
These are two separate acts adopted by the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine in January:
- Law No. 4757 “On the approval of the decree of the President of Ukraine on the extension of martial law” (draft No. 14366) — comes into force on the day of publication.
- Law No. 4758 “On the Approval of the Decree of the President of Ukraine on the Extension of the Term of General Mobilization” (draft No. 14367) — comes into force on February 3, 2026.
Thus, the legal regime of martial law and mobilization measures remain in force without interruption.
How parliament voted
The decision on the next extension was adopted by parliament on January 13 after unanimous support from the relevant committee on national security.
During the plenary session:
- 330 MPs voted in favor of extending martial law (No. 14366);
- 312 parliamentarians voted for the extension of general mobilization (No. 14367).
18th extension since the start of full-scale war
The current decisions are the 18th vote by the Verkhovna Rada on the extension of martial law and general mobilization since the start of Russia’s full-scale aggression against Ukraine. The extension of these regimes provides the legal basis for defense measures, the functioning of the security and defense sector, and mobilization processes in the country.
Martial law and mobilization in Ukraine
On February 24, 2022, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced the introduction of martial law throughout Ukraine. The Verkhovna Rada voted to introduce martial law.
On the same day, in connection with Russia’s aggression and the introduction of martial law in Ukraine, restrictions on travel abroad for men aged 18 to 60 came into force.
Since then, martial law and mobilization in Ukraine have been extended several times.
There is an option to cancel martial law throughout the country or in certain parts of it until its expiration. To do this, the president must issue a decree. The condition is that there is no threat to national security and territorial integrity.
